Job Description

Remote: Anywhere
Non-Profit, Music, Administration
Part-time permanent

This Is A Movement (TIAM) is hiring a part-time Community Manager. This position will begin this September, with a monthly stipend of $500.

The Community Manager is part of the catalyst in moving our mission to transform and activate a robust network within the jazz and creative music space geared toward cultivating an equitable and liberated music industry for all people through a framework of non-hierarchical, Black Feminist methodologies. At TIAM, we know that equity is not just an inversion of the long-held paradigms of power and privilege in the larger world and in the music space in particular; but instead through our open and care-centric dialogues, the initiative seeks to loosen the grip that white supremacy and patriarchy has around all of us.

The ideal candidate will be able to work independently with a strong attention to detail, and an ethic of accountability and care for our community.

Duties include:
Creating and managing social media posts with continuous engagement
Scheduling calls with the steering committee and other community stakeholders
Survey/application creation in collaboration with our Steering Committee.
Note-taking
Graphic design as needed

About This Is A Movement
This Is A Movement (TIAM) is an initiative seeking to create a more equitable music industry through an intersectional Black feminist lens, centered upon non-hierarchical, collaborative and imaginative modes of creation and organization. At this moment, women, those of underrepresented gender identities and their allies are claiming a space that challenges the status quo. TIAM considers the status quo to be the perpetuation of patriarchal power structures that exclude individuals who do not identify as cisgender, white men. We are also responding to the historical reality in the jazz and creative music scene. Although it originated within Black communities, there has been an ongoing divestment of their power in a framework that does not privilege the artist over the commodification of their contributions. Our initiative seeks to change ways of thinking, working, and living while confronting structural inequities based on gender, age, race, and culture that have propped up these patriarchal power structures. It is asking the essential question: “What does a freer, fairer and more representative music industry look like?” To reimagine and remake our ecosystem, TIAM invites numerous organizations, institutions and individuals, bringing together artists, activists, organizers and creatives to share their experience, their dreams and their plans. TIAM consists of a group of artists and industry professionals who recognize the need for change in the music industry and have set out to establish spaces in which to achieve it. The project has grown out of the work of numerous individuals’ ideas and labor — intellectual and otherwise. By inviting our community to collectively share and reflect, TIAM is committed to building a more equitable music industry.
