Job Description

Laguna College of Art + Design is seeking a part-time student assistant in the Fabrication
Laboratory.

Position Summary:
The student assistant will assist the Fabrication Laboratory Manager in supervising student use
of the laser cutter, vacuum former, vinyl cutter, shrink wrapping station, sewing machine, and
paint booth. They will also clean and operate equipment as needed. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 Creates pieces to showcase the capability of laboratory equipment
 Sets up and operates 3D scanner
 Processes 3D files for 3D printing
 Operates 3D printers
 Post processes 3D prints
 Responds to student emails regarding laboratory questions
 Cleans the laboratory and various pieces of equipment
 Records FabLab use data
 After being fully trained, will supervise students in the FabLab in the evening hours,
unsupervised
 Adheres to LCAD safety program policies as written in the Injury and Illness Prevention
Plan, Emergency Action Plan, Fire Protection Plan, Employee Handbook and SDS
database
 Responsible for safe practices and student safety inside the FabLab when unsupervised
 Maintains a clean work environment

 Must have desire to learn how to operate equipment including 3D Printers, Laser
Cutters, Vacuum Former Press, Vinyl Cutters, etc.
 Must have desire to learn woodworking equipment including miter saw, table saw, band
saw, drill press, etc.
 Strong organization skills required
 Must be self-motivated, focused, and proactive
 Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills required
 Ability to work independently as well as part of a team required
 Must complete LCAD safety training courses
The successful candidate will also be able to perform the following essential functions:
 Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet

Physical Essential Functions:
Lifting up to 25 lbs. without assistance, grasping, pulling, pushing, squatting, bending, reaching,
stooping, stepping up and down ladder, sitting, standing, typing, moving from one place to
another, reaching over shoulder, kneeling, and squatting. Tools used: drill, screwdriver, wire
cutter; woodworking power tools including table saw, miter saw, belt sander, and drill press.

Hours per Week/Schedule: 5-12 hours per week
