Job Description

Reports to: Project Manager and/or Fabrication Production Manager

The Scenic Artist will play a crucial role in bringing the clients; visions to life. This role will collaborate
closely with our design and production teams to create custom scenic elements, sculptures, and props for
trade shows, exhibits, and other promotional events. Artistic skills and attention to detail will be essential
in achieving each project;s desired aesthetic and thematic goals.
Essential Functions:
1. Scenic Painting:
 Create realistic, stylized, and textured scenic backdrops and elements using various painting
techniques.
 Mix and match paint colors to achieve the desired visual effects and color schemes.
 Ensure that scenic elements are visually cohesive with the theme.
2. Sculpture:
 Sculpt three-dimensional elements and props from various materials, such as foam, wood,
metal, and fiberglass.
 Use carving tools, molds, and other sculpting techniques to achieve precise and detailed
results.
 Collaborate with the design team to translate conceptual ideas into tangible sculptures.
3. Material Selection:
 Identify appropriate materials for each project based on design specifications, budget, and
safety requirements.
 Ensure the safe handling and disposal of materials, including hazardous substances, when
necessary.
4. Collaboration:
 Work closely with designers, project managers, and other team members to understand
project objectives and timelines.
 Communicate effectively and provide artistic insights to ensure the successful execution of
projects.
5. Quality Control:
 Maintain high-quality standards throughout fabrication, paying attention to detail and
craftsmanship.
 Perform quality checks to ensure that scenic and sculptural elements meet client
expectations and industry standards.

6. Maintenance and Repair:
 Perform maintenance and repair work on existing exhibits or scenic elements as needed.
 Provide solutions for extending the lifespan of scenic and sculptural components.
Required Education and Experience:
 Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Scenic Design, Sculpture, or a related field (or equivalent work
experience).
 Proven experience as a scenic artist and sculptor, preferably in the exhibit and trade show industry.
 Proficiency in various painting techniques and sculpture methods.
 Strong artistic and creative skills with a keen eye for detail.
 Ability to work collaboratively in a team and communicate effectively.
 Familiarity with safety protocols and best practices in handling materials.
 Flexibility and adaptability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
 A portfolio showcasing your scenic painting and sculpting work is highly desirable.

Travel:
Travel is required. Some projects may require more out-of-the-area and overnight travel.
Supervisory Responsibility:
No direct supervisory duties, though management of projects includes directing project-related activities
of the project team members.

Expected Hours of Work:
Standard operation hours are Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm, and occasionally extended
hours, including weekends.

Work Environment:
Work generally requires standing and walking up to 100% of the time. The lighting and temperature are
adequate. Sometimes, there is noise, such as groups of people working in an enclosed area. Work is
generally performed in a shop environment, with standard equipment available. Alternative work locations
may be required based on assigned projects.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is
frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, move, or crawl.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral
vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee may be required to lift heavy
objects made of wood, fiberglass, and other materials. Furthermore, climbing ladders and navigating tight
spaces are standard requirements.
