  • Oct 14 VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Laguna Food Pantry Laguna Food Pantry

    Laguna Beach, CA  (north of Big Bend)

    The Pantry operates like a small grocery store and our shoppers choose their own produce, canned goods, protein, baked goods and bread. We are open to shoppers five days a week, Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 10:30 AM.   Although we have a small building, we serve approximately 500 families a week and provide 4,000 lbs of food a day.     Two Opportunities:
    1)  Once a month we get a special order of food that needs to be unloaded and sorted.  We are very much in need     of help next week on Friday, October 11 from 11 AM to 1 PM  to unload and sort the food.
    We could use up to 15 volunteers but seven would be a huge help!

    2) Volunteer one day a week at the Pantry on a weekly basis from 8 to 10:45. LCAD volunteers will be trained but essentially they will stock the shelves, sort the donated food as it comes in, interact with the shoppers and make sure that the families who shop are taken care of the day that they work.

    *Above would be the consistent 6 hours a week plus more when/if owner is out of town and needs Gallery sitting or help preparing for an exhibition PLUS more hours available when/if owner is traveling (every few weeks)
    Extra help may be needed with a show or packing and shipping a show to NYC etc. Some Sundays 9:30-12:00
    For special holiday weekends we should be open. Some hours outside of work gallery sitting hours will be available

    online training will give new-hires a unique way of learning everything they need to know about hospitality,
    bartending, serving and all things food and beverage.
    In the training program, we use video, animation, graphics, and text to teach key concepts in a fun and
    engaging way. This requires simple, fun, and well-designed icons and illustrations to deliver the training. The
    end product is delivered on all devices – smartphones, laptops, and tablets/pads.
    This is a unique opportunity to work with a creative group who have countless awards in film, TV and
    commercial video; including 5 Emmy Awards.

    Must have a strong command of designing for the purpose of illustrating key concepts using graphs,
    illustrations, icons, text, signs, and symbols. Generally, designs are created in Illustrator and animated in After
    Effects. The use of text animation will also be prominent throughout so experience in animating text is key.
    We video edit on Adobe Premiere so experience with Adobe Premiere is a plus.
    STYLE and TONE:
    We are looking for someone who can create visuals that are fun, engaging, and take a less-is-more approach.

    The College of Architecture (COA) at Texas A&M University (TAMU) invites applications and nominations for the position of Head, of the Department of Visualization (VIZA). The position is anticipated to begin in Summer 2020.
    The Department of Visualization is a cross-disciplinary program with faculty that includes artists, computer scientists, art historians, interaction designers, and allied experts from the sciences and the arts. In this hybrid environment, the Department of Visualization offers an opportunity for various forms of collaboration. Texas A&M is a Tier One research university, and the Department of Visualization encourages and expects robust exhibition of artworks and/or publication of scholarly research by our tenured and tenure track faculty.
    Three degree programs are offered by the department: the Bachelor of Science in Visualization, the Masters of Science in Visualization, and the Masters of Fine Arts in Visualization. A PhD in Visualization is under review by university administration. Students benefit from both instruction and placement through the department’s strong ties with CG film and electronic media and game studios. Our graduates can also be found in fields as disparate as fine art and scientific visualization.
    In concert with the College of Architecture and Texas A&M University strategic planning for 2020-2030, the Department of Visualization is now in the process of developing a new strategic plan. The new Department Head will thus have an opportunity to lead and shape this plan.
    The Department of Visualization is located in the College of Architecture, home to a diverse and comprehensive array of disciplines and degree-granting programs related to the natural, built, and virtual environments. Other departments include Architecture, Construction Science, and Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning.     LCAD students are invited to paint live and sell work at LAGUNA BEACH SMARTSCAPE WATER WISE EXPO on Saturday, October 12th, 8:00 AM -2:00 PM

    First come, first served. Arrive to set-up 7:30am – 8 am.
    Students may choose what and where they wish to set up- anywhere on the inside water district ‘s grounds.

    There’s a pond with fish and tortoises, beautiful old trees including an original sycamore and palm planted when the water district and city building were first created. There are also water-wise native plants mixed with succulent. There is historic and new architecture on the front and sides of the buildings.

    Consider carpooling, public transit or being dropped off and picked up. There is a city lot (pay) next to city hall and parking (pay) meters (3 hours max).

    – Sales that are made. Have your work priced. This is a great opportunity to practice speaking with potential collectors.
    – Bring easel, chair and materials you will need that can easily be used on location.

    – Rear area will have vendor booths a stage, and lunch at noon for purchase.
    – A bathroom is available near the front parking area .

    Approach: Provide 5 annual arts exhibitions at the Susi Q Senior Center’s Gallery Q, which encompasses hanging space in the galleria, library/lounge, Great Room, Game Room, and Laguna Room. Each opening exhibit honors the artists with an art reception open to the public free of charge.

    Job Description

    -This position entails two responsibilities both related to Gallery Q. Installation of art work throughout the gallery using the current museum mounting track systems. Experience in art placement, design and continuity is desirable. Art work is installed 1-3 days after art work is accepted. Installations take January, March, May, July and October. Job requires use of a ladder and lifting art pieces without an assistant.

    -Administrative tasks to coordinate art receptions including making purchases prior to the event. The art reception supervisor is supported by two staff members; Volunteer Coordinator (Christine Brewer) and Gallery Q Coordinator (Judy Baker) in addition to Gallery Q Art Director Bill Atkins and a team of event volunteers.

    Terms and Conditions

    The position of Art Installer/Art Reception Supervisor will be compensated $600. per show plus mileage and reimbursements. A W-9 tax form will be completed and returned prior to first payment. The position will be served as an independent contractor with a 1099 contract. As an independent contractor no sick leave, paid vacation, holidays or other benefits are provided. This agreement will commence on January 1, 2020 with a one year renewable term. It may be terminated by either party with two weeks’ notice.

    We have full and part time paid and unpaid internships available during the school term and summer breaks. All disciplines welcomed: art, production, programming, animation, design and sound. Art and animation intern candidates must also provide a portfolio and/or reel.     Internship Qualifications:

    International Deadline: January 6, 2020 – Beam Camp is a collaborative building and design summer camp in Strafford, NH that works with kids aged 10-17 to make the seemingly impossible possible. Our award-winning program has been featured in the New York Times, Wired, NPR, and designboom, and offers young people the opportunity to cultivate hands-on skills while exploring innovative thinking, design, problem solving and the creative process.
    An intergalactic salvage station struck by a meteor, a solar-powered cinematic riff on a French film from 1902, a 2-story arboreal kaleidoscope: every year, Beam Camp solicits proposals for unique and spectacular large-scale projects that serve as the centerpiece for a 25-day session of camp, during which they are built and brought to life by 100 campers and staff. Our Project Team works with the winning designers (Project Designers) to translate their designs into the camp context. Precision of craft, skill, and imaginative thinking are paramount in our projects and the work of our staff and campers — please take some time to familiarize yourself with our past projects.

    Beam Camp is looking for the following:
    * Proposals from creative individuals and teams, including but not limited to Artists, Designers, Filmmakers, Architects, Builders, Engineers, Musicians, Fabricators & Technologists
    * Visionary ideas that culminate in a unique, ambitious, and spectacular Artwork
    * Proposals that communicate a clear vision (sketches, diagrams, and other visuals are always helpful) and represent your/your team’s expertise

    Projects that:
    * allow us to create the majority of the components onsite and from scratch
    * utilize a range of materials, processes and techniques
    * take advantage of Beam’s facilities, community, landscape, and rural setting
    * Beam Camp Disciplines and Facilities include:
    * Full wood and metal shops, equipped with a range of hand and power tools
    * Welding facilities
    * Textile, dye and sewing stations
    * Ceramic studio
    * Molding and casting facilities
    * Performance space
    * Audio equipment and instrument selection
    * Food Garden and Commercial Kitchen

    Budget & Expectations
    * Project Designers will receive a stipend of $3,000.
    * Project Designers will be reimbursed for all reasonable travel costs related to site visits
    * Beam Camp will allot a budget of $12,500 for Project materials and expenses, including those related to prototyping and design
    * Project Designers should have a general understanding of the processes, techniques and materials involved in their proposal
    * Project Designers must be available for weekly Skype meetings January 30 through June 30 in order to facilitate any necessary development, prototyping and problem solving
    * Project Designers must be able to provide plans according to the project schedule

    Project Proposals must include:
    * The title of your proposal, accompanied by a brief description of the project (3 sentences)
    * A detailed description of the project, along with applicable visuals (sketches, diagrams, renderings, etc. are encouraged)
    * Information about all the participants: names, emails, experience (resume, CV, portfolio, etc.) and phone numbers of everyone involved

    You are NOT required to:
    * Include nature, children, or camp as a theme in your project proposal
    * Provide a detailed breakdown of how your project would be realized by 100 Beam campers
    * Be at Beam for the entire camp session if your proposal is chosen; the length of your visit depends on your schedule and the needs of the project

    * Incomplete proposals will not be considered; please make sure yours is complete before submitting.

    * Monday, January 6 2020: RFP closes; all proposals must be submitted by 11:59pm EST
    * Tuesday, January 14 2020: Semi-finalists notified
    * Wednesday, January 29 2020: Project Designers are selected
    * Sunday, May 24 2020: Final project plans/blueprints due
    * July 2 — July 26 2020: Projects are realized at Beam Camp
